SFA's Driving Jacks, in correlation with SAFERIDE programs across America (SRPU.ORG), is a proactive program, created and initiated by both undergraduate and graduate students that will work in cooperation with local sponsors in an effort to ensure the safety needs of the SFA community.  The mission of Driving Jacks is to provide a free, non-judgmental, and safe ride home to all SFA students and the Nacogdoches community members who seek to use our program.  Driving Jacks provides a designated driver services in hopes to prevent future tragedy in our student body as well as in the Nacogdoches community.

Driving Jacks has created a program that made sense and that students considered the "cool" thing to do. Driving Jacks immediately vowed to never preach to students about drinking but to accept everyone and let them understand that Driving Jacks is here to help. We believe that the education process should be done outside of the car and in a more effective manner. In fact, Driving Jacks encourages the use of its service by its own members if they are ever in need.

Mission Statement
Driving Jacks’ mission is designed to help avoid feature tragedy and facilitate a safer community. Driving Jacks will provide a safe and reliable service within the SFASU and Nacogdoches communities by providing free, non-judgmental rides to intoxicated students & residents and students & residents who are rendered incapable of transportation due to other circumstances

We will achieve this vision by combining our unique operations, commitment to safety, focus on the Driving Jacks values, and commitment to improve our service in order to best serve the students of SFASU and the Nacogdoches community.

History of Driving Jacks:
This bittersweet story begins with heartache, yet ends in a commemorative triumph.  Driving Jacks was created in October of 2004, as a sub-committee of Student Government Association.  This was in response to the untimely death of friend, and fellow SGA member, Amy Shields.  Amy was killed on Highway 59 North, just outside of Nacogdoches, Texas by a drunk driver on October 17, 2004.  While the event was tragic, it motivated students to a noble cause which Amy had once passionately advocated, the creation of a student-run designated driver program.  Soon after her death, 3 members of SGA, Doug Carpenter, Brittany Scott, and Jacqui Garrick avidly dedicated themselves to research and the creation of new sub-committee devoted to this cause.   The organization would be called Driving Jacks.

Stephen F. Austin State University's Driving Jacks first started operations in January 25, 2007, under the steadfast leadership of Stephanie Sullivan (President), Krista Swolley (Vice President), and Jonathan Gholson (Risk Management). These three individuals took the original dream and have led it into reality.  While each member surely contributes to the overall success and operations of the organization, their persistence undoubtedly helped establish Driving Jacks. Driving Jacks grew  to 90 members in the spring of '08  and gave, an average, of 75 safe rides home per weekend under the leadership of President Matt Bodin and Vice President Hector Pineda . Currently Driving Jacks has grown to 120 active members, and gives an average, of 110 rides per weekend under the leadership of President Hector Pineda and Vice President Clarissa Ensenberger.
Driving Jacks has  received ODK's Organization of the Year. Two years in a row 07 & 08', and has also received Program of the year in 2008
